Queen Victoria was taking a tour of the city and near the door of the paper factory saw a pile of filthy rags. She asked the guide – “What are these rags for”? He explained that those filthy rags would go through a process and be transformed into the finest stationary. A week later, a box of the finest stationary with the Queen’s emblem arrived at her door. Those filthy rags were now fit to be in the house of Royalty.
This is symbolic of what Jesus does in our lives when we submit to the process of repentance. We are but filthy rags. But He can take our sin, cleanse us, and transform us into a clean sheet of paper, with a new story to be written, and worthy of being in heaven with the King.
“All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.”- Isaiah 64:6
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17
You have never done so much wrong that you are outside the reach of God’s grace and mercy! There is always hope.
