We often consider ourselves “good with the Lord” if we aren’t committing one of the “big sins”… killing, stealing, committing adultery… but look a little closer at what the bible says in Proverbs 6:16-19
.
“These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination to him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that she innocent blood, a heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, a false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among the brethren.”
.
A lying tongue is listed ahead of shedding innocent blood! Why? Look at what is considered an abomination to the Lord – “Sowing discord among the brethren”. And nothing sows discord quicker than gossip and a lying tongue.
.
I have encountered so many people with drama in their lives saying they want to live drama free. The bible gives clear instruction on how to keep the drama out. First? Do not be easily offended. Second? Control your tongue. Do not speak lies and do not gossip. Do not say anything that tears down another, but only edifies and lifts up. Or as my momma used to say, “If you can’t say something nice? Don’t say something.”
.
You can’t cover up gossip by calling your friend and starting with “We need to pray for Susie”… and then telling all of Susie’s business (or perceived business). No matter how you try to disguise gossip? The Lord still knows your heart. So instead? Call Susie. Tell her you love her and have seen she’s struggling and can you pray with her, or help her in any way? That? Is what Jesus would want us to do.
.
Love them all – God will sort em’ out later.
